New Malaysian Airline Takes Off: Ascend Airways To Begin Flights This November

Date:

Malaysia’s aviation industry is set for new growth with the launch of Ascend Airways Malaysia, which has officially received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and Air Service Permit (ASP) from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM). With these approvals, the Kuala Lumpur-based airline is preparing to begin operations this November 2025, starting with freight services using its first Boeing 737-800SF aircraft. Passenger operations are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026, pending additional regulatory approval.

Ascend Airways Malaysia is a subsidiary of Avia Solutions Group, an Irish-headquartered global aviation company specializing in aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance (ACMI) services. The group currently manages 187 aircraft across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The airline’s official website and Facebook page are now live, offering updates and details about its upcoming operations.

According to CEO Germal Singh Khera, Ascend Airways Malaysia will focus on ACMI and charter services for both passenger and cargo flights throughout Malaysia and Southeast Asia. The company aims to offer flexible ACMI solutions to meet the growing demand in Malaysia’s aviation market, where passenger traffic is projected to rise by 8.4% to 15.6% in 2025, reaching up to 112.9 million passengers. He added that Malaysia’s strategic position between Southeast Asia, China, and India makes it an ideal hub for aviation and logistics.

The airline’s formation supports Avia Solutions Group’s seasonal flexibility strategy, first introduced in July 2024, which allows the company to balance flight capacity between the UK and Southeast Asia during peak and off-peak periods. This strategy is backed by shared systems, a common fleet, and the liberal air services agreement between Malaysia and the UK, enabling fifth to ninth freedom flights as well as wet and damp leasing arrangements.

Meanwhile, CAAM CEO Datuk Captain Norazman Mahmud praised Ascend Airways Malaysia for successfully meeting the authority’s rigorous certification standards, commending the airline’s commitment and diligence throughout the approval process.
