Thunderstorm Warning Issued For Several Areas In Peninsula, Sabah Until 9pm

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning following forecasts of heavy rain affecting several areas in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah until 9pm today.

In a statement, MetMalaysia said the affected areas in the peninsula include Sik and Baling in Kedah, Hulu Perak and Kuala Kangsar in Perak, as well as several areas in Kelantan.

Heavy rain is also expected in parts of Terengganu, including Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu, Marang and Dungun.

The warning also covers Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub and Bentong in Pahang.

In Sabah, areas affected by the heavy rain warning are Telupid and Beluran in the Sandakan division.

MetMalaysia explained that a heavy rain warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms producing rainfall exceeding 20 millimetres per hour, which has either occurred or is expected to continue for more than an hour.

The department added that such warnings are short-term alerts and are valid for no more than six hours from the time they are issued.
