Meghan Markle Steps Back Into Hollywood After Seven Years

Date:

Meghan Markle is reportedly making a return to acting after seven years, with a cameo in the upcoming comedy Close Personal Friends, which stars Lily Collins and Brie Larson, according to multiple outlets.

The Duchess of Sussex, 44, is said to be playing herself in the Amazon MGM Studios film, which follows a couple who befriend a famous pair during a trip to Santa Barbara, California, People reported.

Production began in London in September after the film was first announced in August, with Jason Orley directing and Henry Golding and Jack Quaid also among the cast.

While Meghan has not publicly commented on the project, she was reportedly spotted on set filming her brief role.

Lily Collins teased the project in a Sept 22 Instagram post, sharing a selfie with Brie Larson, Henry Golding, and Jack Quaid, captioned, “Close (personal) friends only…”

This will be Meghan’s first screen appearance since leaving the hit legal drama Suits in 2018, where she starred as paralegal-turned-lawyer Rachel Zane for seven seasons.

She left the series ahead of her marriage to Prince Harry, explaining in a 2017 BBC interview that she viewed the change as “a new chapter” rather than a sacrifice.

“Once we hit the 100-episode marker, I felt really proud of the work I’d done,” she said. “Now it’s time to work as a team with Harry.”

Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Meghan and Harry have settled in California with their two children — Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.

Meghan has since launched her lifestyle brand As Ever and the Netflix homemaking series With Love, Meghan, though she previously told Variety in 2022 she had no plans to return to acting full-time.

“I’m done,” she said then. “I guess never say never, but my intention is to absolutely not.”
