Police have detained an unemployed man for allegedly molesting a single mother he had known for just a month after meeting online.
The incident reportedly took place around 2 p.m. on Tuesday while the victim was in a car with the suspect, believed to have occurred at two different locations.
Kluang police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said the 49-year-old suspect first became acquainted with the woman through social media before they agreed to meet in person.
“While they were in the car, the suspect allegedly took advantage of the situation to molest the victim. She later lodged a police report at 3.36 p.m. the same day,” Bahrin said in a statement.
Following the report, police arrested the suspect at a house in Kulai to assist with the investigation. Initial checks showed that the man had no prior criminal record.
Bahrin said the suspect has been remanded for four days until Sunday to facilitate further investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force with intent to outrage modesty.
