A 23-year-old mother in Colombia tragically passed away after collapsing during a series of drinking challenges at a nightclub, local media reported.
According to The Mirror, María José Ardila, who had a one-year-old child, went out with friends on October 25, just three days before her birthday. After dinner, the group continued celebrating at a nightclub.
During the night, Ardila took part in multiple drinking challenges but suddenly collapsed and began convulsing. Friends attempted to hail a taxi to take her to the hospital, but no drivers were willing to pick her up, delaying medical attention. Ardila reportedly went without breathing for approximately 17 minutes.
Medical examinations revealed that she may have suffered aspiration pneumonia, and one of her lungs had collapsed. Despite three consecutive resuscitation attempts, doctors were unable to restore consciousness. After spending three days in the ICU, Ardila passed away.
A nightclub spokesperson expressed condolences, stating, “We deeply regret this incident and extend our sympathies to the family. We are willing to provide all necessary support and cooperation.”
A local health department spokesperson added, “To improve safety during the consumption of alcoholic beverages, we will be inspecting commercial establishments and alcohol retailers.” The exact cause of Ardila’s death is still under investigation.
