North Korea fired a ballistic missile toward the sea off its east coast on Friday, South Korea’s military said. Details about the type and range of the missile have not yet been released.
Japan’s government also confirmed the launch, saying the projectile was believed to be a ballistic missile that landed outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said there were no immediate reports of damage.
The latest launch comes weeks after Pyongyang fired several short-range missiles, continuing a series of military provocations amid heightened regional tensions.
