Rembau Fire Claims Life of 25-year-old Learning-Disabled Man, Father Escapes Injuries

Date:

A 25-year-old man with a learning disability was killed after his family’s semi-permanent house was destroyed in a fire at Kampung Seberang Batu Hampar, Rembau, late last night.

Rembau Fire and Rescue Station chief, Assistant Fire Superintendent Muhamad Khairul Yahaya, said the department received a distress call about the blaze at 10.57 p.m.

“At the time of the incident, only the victim and his 59-year-old father were at home. The father said he was asleep when he was jolted awake by several small explosions and saw flames coming from his son’s room,” he told Bernama today.

He added that the father managed to escape but sustained minor burns to his head as the fire spread rapidly throughout the house.

The cause of the blaze and the total losses are still under investigation. The victim’s remains have been handed over to the police for further action. — Bernama
