Namewee to Be Released on Police Bail Amid Ongoing Death Probe

Date:

Controversial Malaysian filmmaker and singer Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, is expected to be released on police bail today after being detained for over a week in connection with the death of a Taiwanese influencer.

According to Berita Harian, the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) confirmed that there is currently no conclusive evidence linking the 42-year-old to the woman’s death.

“We have offered police bail. At this stage, there are no indications that he was involved in the victim’s death,” an AGC spokesperson said. “However, investigations are still ongoing and being actively pursued by the authorities.”

The AGC also stated that further instructions have been issued to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to gather additional evidence and complete the investigation papers.

Namewee presented himself at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters on November 5 to assist in investigations. He was initially held under a six-day remand, which was later extended by three days, ending today.

The 31-year-old Taiwanese influencer, reportedly the last person seen with Namewee before her death, was found dead in a hotel bathroom along Jalan Conlay on October 22.

Authorities have not ruled out any possibilities as investigations continue.
