A viral video showing a monkey being abused in Kelantan has prompted calls for action from animal rights advocates. The footage reportedly depicts the monkey chained, slapped, and struck, causing visible distress.
The Stray Animal Foundation of Malaysia (SAFM) has urged the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) to investigate the incident. “We call on witnesses or anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation,” SAFM said.
The foundation also reminded the public that animal cruelty is a serious offence under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010, with penalties of up to RM100,000, three years’ imprisonment, or both. SAFM added that it will continue monitoring the case to ensure authorities take swift and decisive action.
