Manager Burns RM1 Million Cash to Hide Bribery Evidence During MACC Raid

Date:

A construction project manager suspected of corruption in a data center tender project tried to destroy evidence by burning nearly RM1 million in cash in his bathroom during a raid by anti-graft officers.

According to reports, officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) stormed the manager’s home in Petaling Jaya earlier this week. Before they arrived, the suspect allegedly attempted to eliminate evidence by setting bundles of cash on fire in the bathroom.

When officers entered the premises, they noticed thick smoke coming from the bathroom and discovered partially burned RM100 banknotes, estimated to total around RM1 million.

Further searches of the house uncovered RM7.5 million in cash hidden in three pillow boxes, along with luxury items including Rolex watches, Cartier jewelry, and various gold accessories.

It is believed the suspect had received bribes related to a tender for a data center construction project.

MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi confirmed the operation and the suspect’s attempt to destroy evidence. He stated that under Section 201 of the Penal Code, any act of destroying evidence is a serious offense, punishable by up to seven years in prison or a fine.

The case is being investigated under Sections 16 and 17 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
