A Chinese content creator studying in Malaysia has gone viral after posting a video praising a popular local bak kwa bread snack — with many netizens also joking that Malaysian food has “successfully made him gain weight.”
The TikTok creator, known as “Bairui”, recently uploaded a video showing himself driving around in search of what he described as “Malaysia’s best bread.”
In the clip, a masked Chinese uncle could be seen expertly grilling bread and bak kwa over a charcoal fire, attracting attention with both the food and the old-school stall atmosphere.
Bairui appeared especially shocked that the generously-filled bak kwa bread only cost RM6.
He was also amused by the stall owner’s casual payment system, where customers could place money and take their own change without supervision.
“This uncle is way too relaxed. I just put the money myself and take my own change. Does he really trust me that much?” he joked in the video.
The influencer later paired the hot bak kwa bread with a can of 100PLUS before taking a huge bite on camera.
Clearly enjoying the meal, he happily danced while eating and declared that he felt like he had reached “the peak of life.”
The video quickly attracted massive attention online, with many Malaysians flooding the comment section to praise his taste in local food.
“This is legendary bread we’ve been eating since childhood,” one user commented.
Another wrote: “Bak kwa bread with meat floss is our family favourite!”
Many netizens also praised Bairui for genuinely appreciating Malaysian street food culture.
However, some eagle-eyed viewers dug up older videos from when he first arrived in Malaysia and compared them with his latest appearance.
Several users jokingly pointed out that he now looked noticeably rounder after spending a year enjoying Malaysian food.
One commenter teased: “How long apart are these two videos? Why has he become so much chubbier?”
Bairui responded humorously in the comments: “Exactly one year.”
