Malaysia Named World’s Best Retirement Destination For 2026

Date:

Malaysia has been ranked the world’s best country for retirement in 2026, according to the latest Rumavi Global Relocation Index, which evaluates destinations based on quality of life and retirement appeal.

The report placed Panama second, followed by Portugal in third place, while Thailand ranked fourth among the world’s top retirement destinations.

The index highlights countries offering the best overall living conditions for retirees, with a strong emphasis on healthcare quality, affordability, climate, and long-term residency options.

Asia performed particularly well in the rankings, with Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines all securing places in the global top 10.

Other highly ranked retirement destinations include Costa Rica, Georgia, Estonia, and Antigua & Barbuda.

According to the report, the rankings are based on several key factors, including the quality of healthcare services, cost of living, climate comfort, and the availability of practical long-stay or retirement visa programmes.

Countries without dedicated retirement visa pathways received lower scores, regardless of their overall attractiveness as places to live.

Malaysia’s top ranking reflects its combination of relatively affordable living costs, quality healthcare, favourable tropical climate, and accessible long-term stay options that continue to attract retirees from around the world.
