A monkey caused chaos outside a courthouse in India after snatching a bag containing nearly 200,000 rupees (about RM8,500) and tossing banknotes from the top of a tree.
The bizarre incident took place at a court complex in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, where a man had arrived to complete paperwork related to a land registration transaction.
According to reports, the cash was intended for the purchase of revenue stamps required for the property deal. The money was being carried by Ravindra Lodhi, an associate of lawyer Aamir.
While walking through the courthouse grounds, Lodhi was suddenly approached by a monkey, which grabbed the bag from his hands before making a quick escape.
The animal then climbed a nearby tree, leaving onlookers stunned. People gathered beneath the tree and attempted to recover the bag by shouting at the monkey and throwing stones in an effort to scare it away.
However, the monkey appeared unfazed by the commotion and remained perched high among the branches.
The situation took an even more unexpected turn when the monkey managed to open the bag and began throwing bundles of cash from the tree.
At first, bystanders were confused by the objects falling from above. But once they realised the papers were 500-rupee banknotes, panic and excitement quickly spread through the crowd.
Witnesses rushed to collect the falling cash, turning the courthouse grounds into a scene of confusion as people scrambled to grab the money scattered across the area.
The unusual incident has since gone viral on social media, with many users joking that the monkey had decided to become a “cash distributor” for the day.
