A five-metre-long python weighing nearly 100 kilograms was captured by the Gua Musang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) after it was believed to have attempted to attack a goat in Rancangan Pemulihan Tanah (RPT) Limau Kasturi, Gua Musang.
Gua Musang Fire and Rescue Station chief Muhammad Azrul Izzham Zulkifli said the department received an emergency call at 11.40pm on Monday regarding the sighting of the large reptile.
He said a team of four firefighters from the Gua Musang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was deployed to the scene and successfully captured the snake.
“We were informed that the python, which weighed nearly 100kg, was believed to have been attempting to prey on a goat,” he said when contacted on Tuesday.
The python has since been taken to the Gua Musang Fire and Rescue Station and will be handed over to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) for further action.
Muhammad Azrul also advised the public, especially those living near plantations or in rural villages, to remain vigilant against the presence of wild animals.
He added that unpredictable weather conditions could be one of the factors driving wildlife into residential areas.
