A traveller was left both amused and puzzled after discovering an unusual house rule taped to the bed in his Istanbul vacation rental.
Shared on Reddit’s r/mildlyinfuriating forum, the viral photo shows a plain sheet of paper stuck to the bed frame with a blunt instruction: “Use only to sleep/no other activities.”
“Came here with my wife. Oh well,” the Swedish traveller joked in his caption.
Speaking to Newsweek, he said he and his wife were “surprised” but confirmed they plan to follow the host’s request.
He later discovered what he believes may be the reason behind the strict rule.
“There is another note saying the neighbours are very sensitive to noise,” he said. “So maybe it’s that — my best guess.”
The quirky instructions didn’t stop with the bed.
In the comments, the OP posted a second photo: a TV remote labelled “Use only to turn the TV on/off.”
Despite the odd signage, the guest urged people not to judge the city based on a single host.
“It shouldn’t reflect on Istanbul. It’s a lovely city with great people,” he said.
Airbnb, responding to PEOPLE, said it could not confirm whether the rental was part of its platform, adding that hosts must clearly disclose all rules before booking. The company also highlighted its 24/7 support for guests.
The post quickly took off, earning over 87,000 upvotes and more than 2,400 comments, with Redditors chiming in with jokes and theories.

Others suggested exploring alternative ‘activity locations’ elsewhere in the rental.
