‘The Stress Is Worse’: Malaysian Opens Up About 15 Months Unemployment After Quitting Toxic Job

Malaysian Warns Against Quitting Your Job Without A Backup PlanA Malaysian has sparked discussion online after urging people not to quit their jobs without securing another source of income, saying the stress of unemployment can be far worse than dealing with a toxic workplace.

In a post on Threads, the individual said he had noticed a growing number of people resigning without a backup plan and warned that it should only be considered as a last resort.

Drawing from his own experience, he revealed that he spent 15 months out of work during a career break, describing the period as far more stressful than being employed.

“As someone who went through a 15-month career break, I wouldn’t recommend it. The stress of working and the stress of being unemployed are two completely different things,” he wrote.

He explained that while work can be challenging, having a steady salary provides financial security and allows people to meet their monthly commitments.

“When you’re employed, you know you’ll receive a salary at the end of the month. But when you’re unemployed, every month becomes a question of how you’re going to survive,” he said.

The user stressed that there is nothing wrong with resigning, but advised people to plan their exit carefully by updating their resume and applying for new jobs before handing in their resignation.

His post resonated with many social media users, with several agreeing that quitting without another job lined up is a luxury that only those with strong financial support or family backing can afford.

Others suggested building up emergency savings and cutting back on unnecessary spending, such as daily coffee or desserts, before making the decision to resign.

However, not everyone agreed. Some pointed out that certain employees are forced to leave toxic or unhealthy workplaces unexpectedly, making it difficult to secure another job before resigning.

The discussion has since highlighted the importance of balancing mental well-being with financial stability when considering a career change.
