Threads Post Slams Café Patrons Who Sit for Hours Without Ordering

Date:

A Threads user has ignited an online debate after criticising individuals who occupy tables in cafés for extended periods without purchasing anything.

In her post, she questioned the lack of consideration shown by those who sit in air-conditioned premises without ordering even a drink, arguing that such amenities come at a cost to business owners.

“Air-conditioning and cleanliness comes with its price… at least order one drink for RM10+,” she wrote, adding that those who do not make a purchase should not expect the same privileges as paying customers.

Netizens Weigh In

The post quickly gained traction, drawing a wave of reactions from other users who shared similar frustrations.

One commenter agreed that basic courtesy should deter people from taking advantage of businesses in that manner. Another highlighted a common scenario where patrons respond “wait a moment” when approached by staff, but never actually place an order.

A separate user recounted personal experience working in cafés, noting that some individuals utilise free Wi-Fi and remain for hours without buying anything, sometimes even causing disturbances. She added that whenever she worked remotely at cafés, she made it a point to purchase multiple drinks.

The discussion has since broadened into a wider conversation about café etiquette, customer responsibility and the balance between public space and private business rights.
