KLIA Border Agency Launches Probe After Officer Accused Of Taking RM100 QR Payment

Date:

Malaysia’s Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has launched an internal investigation after allegations surfaced online claiming one of its officers accepted a RM100 payment via a personal QR code while on duty at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2.

KLIA AKPS Commander Mohd Safrie Zakaria said the officer linked to the viral allegation has been called in by the agency’s senior management to provide a statement as part of the ongoing investigation. He stressed that the matter is being treated seriously to establish the full facts surrounding the claim.

According to Mohd Safrie, the agency also contacted the owner of the Threads account that published the allegation at around 11am on Sunday in an effort to obtain additional information. However, as of 4pm on Monday, no response had been received from the account owner.

He said the AKPS Integrity Division at KLIA has already begun a comprehensive internal probe into the incident, adding that the agency will not tolerate any officer or personnel found to have breached integrity standards, abused their authority or failed to comply with established standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“If the investigation confirms that misconduct took place, firm disciplinary and legal action will be taken without compromise,” he said in a statement issued on Monday.

Mohd Safrie also appealed to members of the public who may have information about the alleged incident to come forward and assist investigators. He added that public cooperation is vital to safeguarding the integrity of the agency and maintaining confidence in Malaysia’s border enforcement.

The controversy began after a Threads user claimed they were stopped at a KLIA inspection counter after returning alone from Indonesia with several packets of bakso packed in their luggage. According to the post, the traveller was informed that the food items were not permitted into Malaysia.

The individual further alleged that an officer then offered to release the food in exchange for a RM100 payment made by scanning a personal QR code. The account owner also claimed that an official report has since been lodged over the alleged incident.

The allegations have since sparked widespread discussion on social media, while the agency’s investigation is expected to determine whether any wrongdoing occurred. At this stage, the claims remain allegations pending the outcome of the official probe.
