Wang Leehom To Remove Stage Stunts After Concert Accident That Left Him With 39 Stitches

Date:

Taiwanese-American singer Wang Leehom has announced changes to his upcoming concerts after suffering a serious ear injury during a recent performance.

In a video shared on July 12, the 50-year-old singer updated fans on his recovery, revealing that his wounds had healed well and that his stitches were expected to be removed the following day.

Wang said that beginning with his upcoming concert in Changsha, several high-risk stage elements would be removed, including aerial wire stunts and the LED floor built into the stage.

He acknowledged that the changes might reduce some of the show’s dramatic visual effects but said audiences would still enjoy a memorable performance.

“Although these adjustments may lessen some of the theatrical impact, I will continue to bring the most sincere music to every audience member from every corner of the stage,” he said, while asking fans for their understanding.

Wang also addressed recent criticism directed at members of his production team, saying he was saddened to see them become targets of online abuse.

He stressed that his achievements would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of his entire team.

The announcement comes after Wang was injured during his concert in Chengdu earlier this month.

According to the singer, his foot became entangled in a stage wire during the performance, causing him to fall and strike the side of his head against the metal edge of the stage.

The impact shattered the cartilage in his left outer ear, which was made worse because he was wearing a hard in-ear monitor at the time.

Despite bleeding heavily and losing the use of his left in-ear monitor, Wang completed the concert using only his right earpiece.

Recalling the incident, he said he barely noticed the pain while performing in front of nearly 40,000 fans.

“The show must go on,” he said.

After the concert, Wang was rushed to hospital, where doctors treated his injuries. He revealed that he received a total of 39 stitches — 27 to reconstruct his damaged ear and another 12 to close facial wounds.

A CT scan later confirmed that he had not suffered any injuries to his brain or skull.

Wang thanked fans for their concern and support, saying he considered himself fortunate that the injuries were not more serious.

The singer is expected to resume his tour with enhanced safety measures in place for future performances.
