A 16-year-old female secondary school student was caught in a close proximity (khalwat) incident with a man in his 20s at a hotel here early this morning, during an enforcement operation by the Johor State Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ).
A JAINJ spokesperson said the teenage girl, who is a Form Four student studying outside the district, was accompanied by a single man employed at a factory.
“The case is shocking as it involves a school student. During the operation, the man was startled upon seeing five JAINJ officers and initially only opened the door slightly. Upon inspection, the officers found the student inside the hotel room,” the spokesperson told reporters.
The student’s parents have been called in to handle the bail process.
The operation, conducted from 10pm last night until 3am today, also resulted in the detention of two other foreign couples for the same offense.
“The second couple involved a 30-something Indonesian man working in a factory and a Malaysian woman employed as a security guard and canteen worker. The third couple comprised a Myanmar man in his 30s working as a security guard and his partner employed in a factory in Senai,” the spokesperson added.
Authorities have urged parents, students, and the public to be more vigilant about social issues, particularly those affecting youth.
