A 17-year-old motorcyclist tragically lost his life in a horrific three-vehicle collision along Jalan Johor Baru–Batu Pahat near Pekan Nenas yesterday afternoon. The accident, which occurred around 4:30pm at Km42 of the route, involved a motorcycle, a lorry, and a car.
According to Pontian district police chief Superintendent Mohammad Shofee Tayib, preliminary investigations indicate that the teenager was riding from Taman Emas Merah towards Pekan Nenas when he crashed into a lorry that was making a turn into a junction. The force of the impact reportedly flung the young rider onto a passing car behind the lorry.
The teen died at the scene from severe injuries, while the drivers of both the lorry and car were unharmed.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving — an offence that carries up to 10 years in jail, a fine of up to RM50,000, and a minimum five-year driving ban upon conviction.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and assist in the investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact Inspector Wan Mohd Hairi Wan Ahmad at 012-3450565 or reach out to the Pontian district police traffic division.
