A Form Five student was brought before the Magistrate’s Court here today on charges of physically sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl at a house in the district last month.
The 17-year-old, charged before Magistrate Dhilip Nair R N Atchuthan, faces two counts under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.
However, for juvenile offenders the punishment may instead involve a good-behaviour bond, a fine, or placement at the Henry Gurney School.
For both counts, he is accused of committing the offences against the victim at her home in the district at about 3.30 pm on 22 August.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Firdaus Ruslan, while the accused was represented by Tan Song Yan from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK).
The teenager pleaded guilty, and the court set 18 November to hear the moral report, the facts of the case and to issue its order. He was released on RM1,500 bail.
