Spring Airlines to Launch Daily Shanghai–Penang Flights from January 30, 2026

Date:

Spring Airlines will begin daily flights connecting Shanghai and Penang starting January 30, 2026, boosting air connectivity between China and Malaysia.

Tourism Malaysia deputy chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin said the new service will operate between Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Penang International Airport, making Spring Airlines the third carrier on this route after Juneyao Airlines and Shanghai Airlines.

The airline will operate flights under numbers 9C7295/7250, using Airbus A320 aircraft. Departing Shanghai in the morning, the flight will arrive in Penang at 2:30 pm local time, with a return flight to Shanghai at 3:30 pm. The journey covers approximately 3,645 kilometres and takes around five hours and 50 minutes.

Although the service is initially approved as seasonal, strong demand is expected to support an extension or potentially a permanent operation.

Yeoh highlighted that the daily flights will provide direct access to one of China’s most dynamic cities, further promoting Penang as a key destination for Chinese travellers. Enhanced connectivity is expected to drive a rise in tourist arrivals from Shanghai and other Chinese cities.

“The expansion of air links demonstrates Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening ties with China while supporting the growth of our aviation and tourism sectors,” Yeoh added.
