Malaysian Property Agent Jailed 10 Weeks for Selling Vapes in Singapore

Date:

A Malaysian property agent, Ang Boon Hong, 43, was sentenced to 10 weeks in jail after pleading guilty to possessing e-vaporisers for sale in Singapore.

According to The Straits Times, customs officers became suspicious of Ang’s behaviour in Wellington Circle, Sembawang, in August. Prosecutor Aditya Naidu from the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) said Ang was aware that the parcels contained illegal e-vaporisers.

Ang told the court that the past few months had been difficult, saying he had lost his job and been unable to return home.

Authorities revealed that on August 28, customs officers stopped Ang at Ang Mo Kio Street 65 and found two blue Ikea bags containing 115 e-vaporisers and 258 components.

Ang had been recruited by a friend known as “Kenny” to pick up parcels from an HDB flat in Sembawang and deliver them to multiple locations, earning between RM2 and RM10 per item and roughly RM100 daily. For cash-on-delivery orders, Ang collected payments and handed them over to Kenny upon returning to Malaysia.

Singapore recently introduced harsher penalties for vape-related offences. Individuals caught vaping can face fines of up to S$700 (RM2,218), while repeat offenders risk prosecution with fines up to S$2,000. Selling e-vaporisers carries penalties of up to S$10,000, six months’ imprisonment, or both.
