A 17-year-old SPM candidate was killed and his schoolmate seriously injured after their motorcycle collided with a concrete mixer lorry along Jalan Lunas–Bandar Permata in Kulim yesterday.
Kulim District Deputy Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Tengku Mohd Faisal Tengku Yeng, confirmed that both teenagers were students at SMK Padang Serai.
Police received a report of the collision at 4.15pm, involving a Yamaha Lagenda 100 motorcycle and a concrete mixer lorry. “The SPM candidate riding the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head and body injuries,” Tengku Mohd Faisal said.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the motorcycle was travelling from Pekan Lunas towards the rider’s home in Taman Lagenda when the accident occurred. The lorry, driven by a 36-year-old man, was heading in the same direction to a nearby construction site and attempted a left turn at a junction.
“The motorcycle, following closely behind, could not avoid the lorry and became wedged under the left rear tyre,” he explained.
The lorry driver was uninjured and has been detained for questioning. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
