A 17-year-old male student was seriously injured after his motorcycle collided with a car in a hit-and-run incident along Jalan Semadong-Beseri here yesterday afternoon.
Padang Besar district police chief ACP Mohd Shokri Abdullah said the incident occurred at about 2.30pm when the victim, a student from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Beseri, was riding home to Kampung Jalan Kaki Bukit.
Preliminary investigations found that the motorcycle rider was travelling along Jalan Bukit Merah, Semadong when a car suddenly emerged from a junction, leaving him unable to avoid a collision.
“The victim ended up crashing into the rear of the car and fell onto the road. The driver of the car is believed to have fled the scene immediately,” he said in a statement.
The identity and registration number of the vehicle have yet to be determined, he added.
As a result of the impact, the teenager suffered serious head injuries, a chin wound and a fractured right leg. He is currently receiving treatment at Hospital Tuanku Fauziah, Kangar.
Police have classified the case under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless driving causing injury.
ACP Mohd Shokri urged the driver involved, as well as any witnesses, to come forward to assist investigations.
