A 35-year-old man allegedly killed his own father in a brutal attack after growing resentful over constant scolding about his unemployment.
The suspect, identified as Yanto, was arrested by the South Bangka Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Polres Bangka Selatan) less than 24 hours after the tragedy in Rindik Village, Toboali District, Bangka Belitung, last Friday.
According to ASP Raja Taufik Ikrar Bintan, head of the South Bangka Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Yanto was detained without resistance at his hiding place the same day.
“Based on our investigation, the suspect admitted that his actions were driven by resentment and anger at his father for frequently reprimanding him for not working,” he said.
The conflict escalated when the victim, 65-year-old Sarbani, again scolded his son over the same issue and ordered him to leave the house. This triggered Yanto’s rage and loss of control.
“In an emotional state, the suspect grabbed a piece of wood nearby and struck the victim on the head, causing him to die at the scene,” Raja Taufik explained.
After the killing, Yanto fled but was quickly apprehended. Police also seized the wooden stick used in the attack.
The suspect is now being held at South Bangka Police Headquarters for further investigation. He faces charges under Article 338 of Indonesia’s Criminal Code for murder, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison if convicted.
