41-Year-Old Restaurant Owner Severely Injured After Hand Trapped In Meat Grinder

Date:

A restaurant owner sustained severe injuries when his right hand became trapped in a meat grinder at a premises on Jalan Silang 3, Chemor, last night.

Acting Assistant Director of Operations for the Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah, said a team from the Meru Raya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was dispatched to the location after receiving an emergency call at 8.17pm.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found the 41-year-old man’s hand still inside the machine. The victim was conscious at the time.

“However, the rescue team needed assistance from the Health Ministry’s (KKM) medical personnel to anaesthetise the victim’s injured hand due to the pain experienced during the operation,” he said in a statement.

He added that the victim had to wait about 40 minutes for the medical team to arrive before the rescue could proceed.

The team then managed to free the man’s hand by dismantling the machine’s base using special equipment and rotating the grinder’s gears in the opposite direction.

“The victim sustained serious injuries to four fingers on his right hand. He was handed over to KKM medical personnel and taken to hospital for further treatment,” Shazlean said.

It is understood that the incident occurred while the man was preparing fish fillet to be ground in the machine for use at the restaurant.
