Taiwan Railways has come under scrutiny after two separate incidents involving alleged indecent exposure on trains in Miaoli County within a span of two days, prompting a police investigation and widespread public concern.
According to Taiwanese media reports, the incidents occurred on consecutive evenings aboard Taiwan Railways Administration services, where female passengers reported encountering men engaging in inappropriate sexual behaviour inside train carriages.
In the first case on 30 April, a woman travelling on train No. 2264 allegedly discovered a man seated opposite her performing an indecent act. When she began recording the behaviour on her mobile phone, the suspect reportedly paused briefly before resuming once he believed he was no longer being filmed. He is also accused of making a provocative hand gesture towards the passenger.
The woman said the man later escalated his behaviour and even followed her to another carriage after she moved seats to avoid him. The incident has since circulated widely on social media, sparking public anger over passenger safety on public transport.
A second similar case was reported the following night on 1 May aboard train No. 1257. A female passenger said she witnessed a man exposing himself and engaging in inappropriate conduct while seated. When she attempted to record the incident and seek help, the suspect allegedly approached her in a semi-naked state, causing her to flee to another carriage.
The incident reportedly ended when the train arrived at Tongluo Station, where the passenger immediately reported the matter to railway staff for assistance.
Taiwan Railway Police have confirmed they are investigating both cases and have identified a suspected individual in connection with the incidents. Authorities are working to locate and apprehend the suspect as concern grows over repeated offences on public transport.
The railway police have urged passengers to remain vigilant and to report any similar behaviour immediately, stressing that public safety remains a top priority in ongoing enforcement efforts.
