61 Stab Wounds: Police Focus On Two Teens After Elderly Couple Freed

Date:

Police investigations into the murder of college student Nurfisya Zulkifly have now centred on two teenage boys, following the release of an elderly couple who were previously detained in connection with the case.

Kota Bharu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azmir Damiri, said the couple, aged 60 and 66, were arrested in Ketereh alongside the two 19-year-old suspects to assist in the investigation. However, the pair have since been released on police bail as authorities shift their focus to the younger suspects.

“The elderly couple have been released on bail, and our investigation is now focused on the two teenage males,” he said in a statement. The two suspects have been remanded for seven days by the Magistrate’s Court starting Saturday to facilitate further investigation.

Police confirmed that the case is being thoroughly investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, with efforts underway to establish the motive behind the crime. The case has drawn significant public attention due to the brutality involved.

Earlier reports revealed that four individuals, including the elderly couple, were arrested between 4.40pm on Friday and 2.30am on Saturday as part of the probe into the killing of the 19-year-old victim.

Nurfisya, a third-semester Diploma in Early Childhood Education student, was found dead on a road in a paddy field area in Ketereh at approximately 12.20am last Friday. A post-mortem later confirmed a shocking 61 stab wounds on her body and face, with the cause of death identified as multiple stab injuries to the chest.
