A 34-year-old man lost RM100,000 in cash after unknown individuals smashed his car window and fled with a bag containing the money in Taman Perling, Johor Bahru, on Monday.
Johor Bahru North district police chief Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh confirmed the incident after receiving the victim’s report at about 1.34pm.
“The Johor Bahru North police detected a video uploaded on Facebook showing several individuals breaking a car window and fleeing with a sum of cash,” he said in a statement.
Initial investigations revealed the incident occurred around 10.11am the same day while the victim’s vehicle was securely parked in Taman Perling. “However, when the victim returned to use his car, he found the driver’s side window smashed by unknown suspects,” Balveer said.
He added that the stolen item was a bag containing RM100,000 in cash. The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
Earlier, a video went viral showing several masked men surrounding a car before one of them repeatedly struck the driver’s side window until it shattered and then fled with a bag. The incident reportedly took place after the victim had withdrawn RM100,000 from a bank in Johor Jaya.
