Four individuals suspected of being involved in cable theft activities at Jalan Zahra 1, Semenyih, were arrested by police yesterday after their actions led to public attention.
Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said police detected a 41-second viral video on social media believed to show the incident, which reportedly took place at about 5.45am.
He said following the circulation of the video, police received a report from a resident living near the area at 8.29am on the same day.
Acting on the report, a team from the Kajang District Criminal Investigation Division arrested three men and one woman, aged between 24 and 39, in the Batu 9 and Batu 14 areas of Hulu Langat.
“All suspects are believed to be unemployed,” he said in a statement today.
Police also seized two vehicles, a Honda Jazz and a Perodua Myvi, which are believed to have been used during the theft.
He added that several other items believed to have been used in the cable theft were also confiscated as evidence.
Checks revealed that the first suspect has 24 prior criminal records and 10 drug-related offences, while the second suspect has 10 criminal records and four drug offences.
The third suspect has five criminal records and six drug-related offences, while the fourth suspect has three drug-related records.
All suspects have been remanded for three days to assist investigations under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
