Police will soon call former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Azam Baki to assist investigations into allegations of criminal intimidation involving businessman Albert Tei.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director M. Kumar said two individuals have so far had their statements recorded, including Albert and a lawyer who was allegedly involved in relaying information linked to the alleged threat.
According to Kumar, police initiated investigations after Albert lodged a police report before later holding a press conference regarding the allegations.
“After Albert made the police report, he claimed the threat was conveyed through a lawyer. Following that, we recorded Albert’s statement and identified the lawyer involved. Yesterday, we recorded the lawyer’s statement,” he said during a press conference at the Kajang district police headquarters.
Kumar stressed that investigations are still ongoing and police need time to carefully examine every aspect of the case before making any conclusions.
“Investigations require time and must be carried out transparently. Every angle must be scrutinised before any conclusion can be reached regarding the allegations,” he said.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation following the police report lodged by Albert on May 13.
When asked whether Azam would also be called in for questioning, Kumar confirmed that police would do so in the near future.
He also revealed that the investigation papers will soon be referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers for further instructions and legal advice.
