Two drivers were injured while 10 express bus passengers escaped unhurt in a collision between a lorry and a bus at KM183.2 of the North-South Expressway northbound yesterday.
Jasin district police chief Supt Lee Robert said the accident occurred around 1.45pm. The lorry, which was transporting a load of bran, was travelling from Bukit Gambir, Johor, to Alor Gajah, Melaka, while the express bus was heading from Larkin, Johor, to Seremban with 10 passengers onboard.
“Initial investigations showed that the lorry, driven by a 69-year-old man, was travelling straight in the left lane but failed to notice the express bus ahead, which was moving slowly. The lorry then rammed into the rear of the bus,” he said.
The lorry driver suffered head and hand injuries, while the 44-year-old bus driver experienced leg pain. Both were taken to Melaka Hospital for treatment.
All 10 passengers were unharmed and continued their journey on a replacement bus.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Witnesses or individuals with information are urged to contact Investigating Officer Insp Marwan Shafiq Mohd Latfi at 011-11127533 or the Jasin District Police Headquarters traffic counter at 06-5292222 (ext. 260).
