Business Owners Warned After “Datuk” Duo Pretend to Service Fire Extinguishers in Klang Valley

Date:

Two men allegedly posing as fire extinguisher maintenance personnel have been reported targeting businesses across the Klang Valley, in a scam that has gone viral on social media.

According to a post by @thebakingxperiment, the men, who claimed the title “Datuk,” visited shops in Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, and other areas, presenting themselves in uniform and offering to service fire extinguishers.

They reportedly returned units with fake certifications and displayed counterfeit identification cards to convince business owners they were from a legitimate fire safety company.

Many netizens shared similar encounters. One user, Sabr_us, recounted how the group visited his Shah Alam shop two months ago, demanding RM600 for the “service” before leaving when questioned about their authorisation. Another warned that only fire extinguishers certified by the Fire and Rescue Department are valid and urged caution when approached by such individuals.

Authorities advise business owners and the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately to the police.
