A CCTV video that has gone viral on social media shows a pickup truck allegedly deliberately running over a stray dog, sparking widespread outrage among netizens.

President of the Malaysian Stray Animals Association (SAFM), R Kalaivanan, said the group is calling for an immediate investigation into the alleged act of cruelty believed to have taken place at Jalan Jenawi 13, Taman Puteri Wangsa.

SAFM strongly condemned the incident, which is said to have occurred at 11.24am on May 15.

Based on the video and public information, the vehicle and individual involved are believed to be linked to a contractor, subcontractor, agent, or local authority-related activity.

The group stressed that if animal control operations were carried out, they must comply with the law, proper procedures, and humane standards.

SAFM urged the authorities, including the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) and police, to take immediate action under the Animal Welfare Act 2015 (Act 772) and any other relevant laws.

It also called for the driver, vehicle owner, and any responsible parties to be identified for further investigation.

When contacted, an MBJB spokesperson confirmed that a complaint had been received and said the council would provide an immediate response regarding the incident.

The 20-second video shows a red pickup truck allegedly striking the dog, which is seen struggling on a residential road.
