Police have recovered a weapon believed to have been used in a stabbing incident involving a woman who was attacked in the neck while sitting inside a car in front of a restaurant at Jalan Titi Gajah, Kepala Batas, on Sunday night.
Kedah Police Chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said the weapon, a six-inch “rambo” knife, was found on Monday after the suspect led police to the location.
He said the knife was discovered about 200 metres from the crime scene, discarded in a paddy field area.
“In this stabbing case, I can confirm that we have successfully recovered the weapon used,” he said during a press conference at the Kedah Police Headquarters on Wednesday.
“The six-inch ‘rambo’ knife was found after the suspect guided police to the area in the paddy field,” he added.
He said the recovery of the weapon marks a positive development in the investigation.
In a separate update, he said the victim, a single mother, has undergone surgery and is now in stable condition.
“The victim suffered trauma from the incident. She is still weak but stable,” he said.
Previously, police had been searching for the weapon used in the attack on the woman’s neck on Sunday night.
The suspect, a 32-year-old man, was arrested about four hours after the incident after he was found walking approximately 6.2 kilometres away near a mosque in Taman Uda at 1.50am on Monday.
The search operation was also assisted by police K9 units.
The suspect has been remanded for seven days starting Monday to assist investigations under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt with a weapon.
