Climber Found Dead Near Base Of Gunung Lambak In Kluang

Date:

A male mountain climber was found dead approximately 800 metres from the base of Gunung Lambak on Sunday (May 3), in an incident that occurred during a hiking trip with friends.

Police said they received an emergency call at about 1.47pm and immediately dispatched the Crime Prevention Patrol 2 (RJC2) team from the Kluang police station to the scene.

Kluang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said the RJC2 team arrived at 2.30pm, together with personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), while paramedics also reached the location at the same time.

He said heavy rain at the site made rescue efforts difficult, delaying the process of bringing the victim down from the mountain.

The victim was eventually brought to the foot of the mountain at about 6.15pm, where a medical officer confirmed that he had died.

The deceased has been identified as Muhammad Nur Hakimi Mohd Haris, 32, from Felda Sungai Sibol in Kulai. He worked at a factory and had been hiking Gunung Lambak with three male friends at the time of the incident.

His body has been sent to Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Kluang for a post-mortem examination, which will be conducted on Monday (May 4).

Authorities said the cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem results are completed.

Gunung Lambak, standing at 510 metres, is a popular recreational hiking spot located near Kluang town, known for its beginner-friendly trails and weekend fitness activities.
