Drug Syndicate Busted In RM13 Million Condo Storage And Packaging Raid

Date:

A drug syndicate’s sophisticated tactic of using condominiums as storage and packaging facilities has been uncovered in “Op Langka”, which led to seizures exceeding RM13 million.

Between April 9 and 12, a total of 191 individuals were arrested in 231 raids conducted across Kedah and Perlis.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the operation was launched following concerns over rising drug abuse and trafficking cases raised by the Home Ministry in March.

He said the operation focused on areas in Langkawi, Kuala Kedah and Perlis, with all arrests involving various offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, including Section 39B.

“All suspects were detained for drug-related offences, including serious cases,” he said at a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters on Thursday.

According to him, follow-up actions under “Op Conops” on April 12 also led to the arrest of seven individuals, including foreigners, in two separate raids in Putrajaya and Setapak.

The total seizure included 170.74 kilogrammes of cannabis flower and 7.04 kilogrammes of cannabis, with an estimated value of RM13.68 million.

Investigators believe the syndicate has been active since December last year, using condominium units in the Klang Valley as storage and packing sites before distributing drugs locally and internationally.

Domestic distribution was carried out using e-hailing services and courier deliveries, while international trafficking reportedly involved drug mules concealing drugs in luggage.

Initial screenings showed several suspects tested positive for drugs including methamphetamine, THC and benzodiazepines, with some also having prior criminal records.

Hussein added that police also seized assets including a car, jewellery and cash worth RM385,000, bringing the total value of seizures and assets confiscated to RM14.07 million.
