Elderly Woman Found Burnt To Death In Sandakan House Fire

Date:

An elderly woman was found burnt to death after a two-storey house she was living in caught fire along Jalan Fook Hin, Batu 12, on Monday night.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station chief Jimmy Lagung said the victim, identified as Nicola, 84, was discovered by firefighters in the living room of the house at around 10.44pm.

According to him, the victim is believed to have been trapped inside the house when the fire broke out.

“The victim’s body was later removed from the scene by the fire and rescue team,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Jimmy said the department received an emergency call regarding the fire at approximately 8.38pm before 13 firefighters were dispatched to the location.

Firefighters used water from the fire engine’s tank to battle the blaze and successfully prevented the flames from spreading further by 9.35pm.

The victim’s remains were later handed over to the police for further action and investigations.

Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the fire.
