A factory supervisor was charged at the Magistrate’s Court here today over the murder of a nine-month-old baby last week.
The accused, Mohd Syahril Nazrul Ruslim, 37, nodded in understanding after the charge was read before Magistrate A Karthiyayini. No plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
According to the charge, the accused is alleged to have murdered his friend’s child, Muhammad Arsya, aged nine months, at an apartment in Taman Bayu Perdana, Klang at about 3.30pm on April 6.
The offence falls under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment for life upon conviction.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nadia Syuhada Rosli, while the accused was not represented by legal counsel during the proceedings.
The court fixed July 6 for mention of the case pending the submission of forensic reports.
