Failed Robbery At Hospital Parking Ends With Suspect Arrested In Cheras

Date:

A woman went through a terrifying ordeal after being targeted by a robber at the parking area of a hospital in Bukit Jalil on Monday.

The incident, which happened at around 11.30am, saw the suspect aggressively open the victim’s vehicle door before attempting to snatch her belongings.

Cheras District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Rosdi Daud, said the robbery attempt failed after a struggle broke out and the victim screamed for help.

“The suspect then fled the scene on a motorcycle,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

Initial investigations found that no material losses were reported in the incident.

Following the report, a team from the Cheras District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Division (D9) arrested a 34-year-old local man in the Brickfields area on Wednesday.

“Background checks revealed that the suspect has 11 previous criminal records.

“Police also seized a motorcycle, a Puma jacket and a helmet believed to have been used during the incident,” he said.

Rosdi added that the suspect was remanded for two days until May 22 to assist investigations.

“The man was later charged at the Jalan Duta Court on Thursday under Section 393 of the Penal Code.

“The court sentenced him to 11 months’ imprisonment starting from the date of arrest,” he said.
