A 63-year-old man died after a 100kg long-shaft connector fell from a tipper lorry and bounced into his car, shattering the windscreen, in Jalan Sri Bengkal near Sri Gading this morning.
The victim, Juhari Murid, was travelling with family members from Senggarang to Felda Pemanis in Segamat when the fatal accident occurred around 8:30am. He suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Juhari’s wife, Zaina Khalid, 58, and three other relatives, including the driver, escaped unharmed. Reports said the family vehicle was passing the lorry when the iron shaft detached from the heavy vehicle.
His daughter, Noor Shahin, 31, recounted her shock upon receiving a call about the incident. “I had a bad feeling about him going to Segamat. I didn’t expect to lose someone I love,” she said, adding she rushed from Muar to Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail.
Noor Shahin said she last spoke to her father via video call yesterday, and he had been excited to see his three-month-old grandson today. “Instead of bringing my son to see him, I’m returning to view his body,” she said.
Another sibling, Mohd Danis Hakim, 22, called for stern action against the lorry owner or company if negligence is found.
Batu Pahat police chief ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani confirmed that a report has been lodged, and investigations are ongoing.
