A Form Four student was killed while another teenage student was left critically injured after they were believed to have suffered electric shock while attempting to take ablution at a secondary school in Daro, Mukah Division, on Thursday night.
Rahim Mihos said police received information from the school regarding the incident at around 8pm involving three male students who were at the ablution area during the incident.
The 16-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel following the electrocution incident, which shocked the school community and prompted an immediate response from authorities.
Meanwhile, another victim, a 15-year-old Form Three student, suffered severe injuries and was rushed to Daro Hospital before being referred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Sibu Hospital for further treatment.
Police also confirmed that a third 15-year-old student who was present at the location escaped unharmed.
As a safety precaution, Sarawak Energy was notified to disconnect the electricity supply at the scene to ensure the area was safe for further investigation.
The deceased student’s body was later taken to Daro Hospital for further procedures, while police have launched an investigation into the incident.
