A former factory supervisor has been remanded for six days starting today after he was suspected of soliciting and accepting about RM25,000 in bribes from 31 workers under his supervision in exchange for approving and supporting overtime work.
The remand order, which runs until April 29, was issued by Magistrate N. Sivashangari at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court against the suspect, who is in his 40s.
The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.
According to sources, the suspect was arrested at 12.20pm yesterday when he appeared to give his statement at the Melaka MACC office.
Initial investigations suggest that the offences allegedly took place between 2024 and 2025, with the suspect believed to have received bribes in cash and monthly payments ranging from RM25 to RM200.
It is also understood that the suspect allegedly threatened foreign workers by refusing to approve or support their overtime applications if his demands were not met.
Melaka MACC director Datuk Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the arrest when contacted.
