Four Arrested Including Elderly Couple Over Murder Of 19-Year-Old Student

Date:

Police have arrested two additional individuals, including an elderly couple, in connection with the murder of a 19-year-old female college student in Ketereh, bringing the total number of suspects detained to four.

Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the suspects comprise three men aged between 19 and 66, and a 60-year-old woman. All were arrested in coordinated operations led by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Kelantan Police Contingent Headquarters, with assistance from the district police.

He said the arrests were carried out in separate raids at two locations — Taman Murni along Jalan Abdul Kadir Adabi and Kampung Belukar Luas, Ketereh — between 4.40pm on Friday and 2.30am on Saturday.

During the operation, police seized two cars, two mobile phones, a set of clothing, a pair of slippers, four floor mats and a knife believed to have been used in the killing.

“All suspects have no prior criminal records and initial urine screening tests showed they were negative for drug use,” he said in a statement.

Earlier, police received a report at about 12.35am on Friday regarding the discovery of a woman’s body on a road in Kampung Padang Simah, Ketereh. The victim was confirmed dead at the scene before being taken to Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II for a post-mortem.

Preliminary findings revealed that the cause of death was multiple stab wounds to the chest.

Following the arrests, all suspects were brought to the Kota Bharu Magistrate’s Court at around 8.40am on Saturday to obtain remand orders for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, along with whipping, upon conviction.
