Four Crew Members Survive Mid-Air Fighter Jet Collision At US Air Show

Date:

Four crew members are reported to be in stable condition after two US Navy fighter jets collided mid-air during an air show in Idaho, United States.

According to a US Navy spokesperson, all aircrew members managed to eject safely from the EA-18G Growler jets, which were performing an aerial demonstration when the collision occurred on Sunday.

The dramatic incident took place during the second and final day of the Gunfighter Skies air show, held about two miles northwest of Mountain Home Air Force Base.

Following the collision, a fire broke out at the site and the military base was temporarily placed under lockdown while organisers cancelled the remainder of the event.

In a statement shared on social media, Mountain Home Air Force Base Gunfighters confirmed that the crew members involved in the incident were in stable condition.

“Thank you to all our guests for your patience and compassion, which allowed us to respond quickly and safely to the situation,” the statement read.

The Navy spokesperson added that the aircrew are currently undergoing medical evaluations, although it remains unclear whether any injuries were sustained during the crash.

The EA-18G Growler aircraft involved were assigned to an electronic attack squadron based in Washington state. According to the US Navy, each jet is valued at approximately US$67 million.

Local reports also stated that no spectators or personnel on the ground were injured in the incident.

The Gunfighter Skies air show was previously held in 2018, when a glider pilot was killed in a separate accident during the event.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the mid-air collision.
