Train Driver In Deadly Bangkok Crash Tests Positive For Drugs

Date:

The train driver involved in the fatal train-bus collision in Bangkok tested positive for drugs, Thai media reported on Sunday, according to Xinhua News Agency.

The accident occurred on Saturday evening when a train travelling from Chachoengsao Province to Bang Sue in Bangkok collided with a bus at a railway crossing in central Bangkok.

The impact triggered a fire accompanied by a loud explosion, while several other cars and motorcycles were also caught up in the crash.

Authorities confirmed that eight people were killed and 32 others injured in the incident. All of those who died were passengers travelling on the bus.

Thai police said more detailed urine test results involving the train driver and the railway crossing signal operator would be officially announced on Monday.

Investigators added that legal action would be taken against the personnel involved following the completion of the investigation.

The deadly collision has once again raised concerns over railway crossing safety and transport enforcement in Thailand following a series of major road and rail accidents reported in recent years.
