Four Teenagers Plead Guilty To Strangling And Attacking Female E-Hailing Driver

Date:

Four teenagers, including one who is still attending school, pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Court in Alor Gajah today to charges of assaulting a female e-hailing driver earlier this month.

The accused, aged between 14 and 17, entered their guilty pleas before Magistrate Teoh Shu Yee after the charges were read out jointly in court.

According to the charge sheet, the four teenagers acted together in intentionally causing injury to the 41-year-old victim by using a dangerous object — a metal rod — and by strangling her neck during the attack.

The incident allegedly took place at around 12.30am on May 4 near a forested area in Kuala Sungai Baru, Melaka.

They were charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same code, which relates to voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapons or means while acting with common intention.

The court later fixed June 24 for the next mention of the case and allowed all four teenagers bail of RM1,000 each.

Earlier reports revealed the female e-hailing driver suffered injuries after allegedly being strangled and assaulted by the group, which included two teenage girls.

The suspects were believed to have attacked the victim after allegedly failing to pay the fare for the ride in Kuala Sungai Baru.
