China Confirms Purchase Of 200 Boeing Jets After Trump-Xi Meeting

Date:

China has officially confirmed plans to purchase 200 Boeing aircraft following high-level talks between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing last week.

According to China’s Commerce Ministry, the agreement also includes supply guarantees from the United States for aircraft engine parts and aviation components needed for the jets.

The major aviation deal emerged after Trump’s visit to China, which focused heavily on strengthening trade ties between the world’s two largest economies amid ongoing tariff negotiations.

Trump previously claimed the agreement could eventually expand to as many as 750 Boeing aircraft, potentially making it the largest aircraft order in the company’s history.

“We made a lot of great trade deals, including over 200 planes for Boeing,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One after leaving China.

Boeing later confirmed the successful reopening of the Chinese market for aircraft orders, describing the 200-plane commitment as an initial phase with more purchases potentially to follow.

Boeing chief executive Kelly Ortberg was among the prominent business leaders who joined Trump during the China visit.

The delegation also included Elon Musk and Jensen Huang.

Besides aviation, both countries also agreed to continue discussions aimed at extending the current tariff truce first reached in October 2025.

China’s Commerce Ministry said both sides are seeking tariff reductions on goods worth at least US$30 billion (approximately RM141 billion) each.

The earlier tariff truce agreement, reached in Kuala Lumpur before a previous Trump-Xi meeting in South Korea, included reductions on US tariffs targeting Chinese products as well as a pause on China’s restrictions involving rare earth mineral exports.

The latest developments come as Xi simultaneously held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, highlighting Beijing’s continued balancing act between major global powers amid shifting geopolitical tensions.
